The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured pupils and students in the state of his commitment in ensuring that they return to school in due time.

The governor said this in his Children’s Day Broadcast Message on LTV to commemoration the Y2020 Children’s Day Celebration in a media release the Head, Public Affairs Unit Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi, issued Wednesday.

In his address, Sanwo-Olu said that the safety and well-being of students in the state is of great importance, as attendance in school requires a healthy body and sound mind.

“I share in your vision for a very bright future, and I urge you to up the scale of your academic performance by preparing very well ahead of all examinations and be focused towards a greater future,” he encouraged.

The governor further revealed that this year’s celebration which is on a low-key is due to the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in the immediate closure of schools.

He advised: “Continue to make the ttate, your parents and teachers proud by studying hard to achieve excellent results.”

Speaking also, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, in her message, wished the children a joyous celebration, encouraging them that frantic efforts were being made towards fighting the pandemic in order to open schools again.

Her words: “As soon as we are comfortable with the level of safety that we have in schools, we will do everything we can to make sure that you come back to school.”

Adefisayo, however, described children as the most valuable assets representing the future and the hope for tomorrow.

While commissioner implored parents to safeguard the future of the children by motivating and providing the essentials for their growth, she commended teachers and parents for their immense contribution to their development.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja, urged parents to make the day special for their children by giving them special treats.

“The ministry has gone round to distribute gift items to students who have been exceptional in academics and co-curricular activities across the Six Educational Districts,” she noted.

Highlights of the day are special performances by popular saxophonist, BeeJay Sax and distribution of gifts and school materials to students in primary, junior and senior secondary levels.
