Two children yet-to-be identified have died in a one-storey building that collapsed, Wednesday, at 46 Gafari Balogun street Ogudu, following the heavy rainfall this morning.

The building was said to have collapsed as a result of a mud slide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall.

The DG/CEO Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that the LASEMA Response Team (LRT) received a distress call at 12:40pm about the collapse of one-storey building at the aforementioned location.

“On arrival at the scene by agency responders, it was observed that the building collapsed as a result of a mud slide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall.

According to the DG, the resultant damage has led to the trapping of two persons while assuring a search was ongoing”.

He, however, noted that the trapped persons were children, one male and one female. Adding that a search and rescue operation was carried out immediately, unfortunately, they were found dead and their remains have been transported to the mortuary.

“Integrity testing will be carried out on the remainder of the building which has now been cordoned off. We will continue to provide updates,” he said.
