The Lagos State Government, on Monday, has announced that consultations were on for another phase of repair of works on the Third Mainland Bridge on July 24.

According to the Federal Controller of Works Lagos, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the consultations were towards evolving a perfect traffic management architecture.

“We want to do maintenance work on the Third Mainland Bridge very soon, most likely on the 24th. We may close it from July 24,” he noted.

While noting that they were still working out the modalities, and when the perfect the traffic management plan, Popoola assured the public that they would move to the site.

He adds, “Everything being expected for the repairs of the bridge arrived in the country that is why we want to start the repairs now.”

He, however, recalled that the bridge which had gone through series of rehabilitation works since constructed in 1990, was last shut in August 2018 for a three-day investigative maintenance check.

“Thereafter, some components needed for completion of repairs were sourced abroad because they were not available locally.

Third Mainland Bridge, which is 11.8k, is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland. From Oworonshoki linking Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and to Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.
