Following a meeting with the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika, Air Peace airline, yesterday, agreed to recall its recently laid off staff.
Recall that last week into the Covid-19 lockdown in the country, the airline operator had laid off 70 staff, over Covid-19 induced financial difficulties.
Some of the affected workers, however, said their “sudden” disengagement was not unconnected with the row over pay cut and protest by the pilots.
The Aviation Minister met with the leadership of the National Association of Airline Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) yesterday, which included the Air Peace Chairman, Mr. Allen Onyema.
In the verbal agreement reached after the dialogue, the airline’s chairman, Chief Allen Onyema, acceded to the minister’s appeal for the recall of the maximum number of pilots the company could conveniently accommodate.
NAAPE chairman, Galadima Abednego, acknowledged that it was a painful thing to see a large number of his members thrown into the labour market, appealing to employers to see them as partners.
