The Lagos State Government has announced that its annual Spelling Bee competition will hold next Monday and Tuesday, in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
This announcement was made, yesterday, by the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni.
She told reporters in Ikeja that this year’s edition will be a milestone, saying the grand finale can be watched via live streaming on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and live transmission by the Lagos Television.
Seriki-Ayeni said the first day of the competition will be for primary school category, while the second day will be for secondary schools.
“The primary school category winner and runners-up will be given cash prizes, while the winner of the secondary school category will become a one-day governor. Runners-up in the secondary school category will be given cash prizes in addition to an educational and cultural scholarship exchange programme to Finland,” she said.
Seriki-Ayeni said to observe safety protocols, only the competitors, their teachers and a pupil per local government would be allowed into the venue.
The competition, a brainchild of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, allows winners to become members of the Youth Parliament.
Lagos State Government has monitored the progress of competitors and winners, who have distinguished themselves in spheres of life.
The 2007 One-Day Governor, Mariam Busari, is a law officer in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice and the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, while the 2004 runner-up, Alex Ezenagwu, is an Associate Professor in the College of Law, Hamid Bin Khalifa University, Qatar.Follow us on social media
