Eleven people sustained various degrees of injuries just as four persons lost their lives on Sunday during an accident involving a Foton bus at the Aiyetoro area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The spokesperson of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed this to journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Sunday.
Akinbiyi said the accident which occurred around 9.59am, involved 15 people that comprised three men and 12 women
He said 11 women were injured while three men and one woman died in the crash.
Akinbiyi said the ill-fated commercial bus somersaulted into a ditch after one of its tyres burst while in motion.
“According to an eyewitness account, the bus marked AGL 989 YA was coming from Ibadan inbound Lagos when it had a tyre burst on the driver’s side at the Ayetoro area on the expressway which led the bus to somersaulting into a ditch,” he said.
Akinbiyi noted that the remains of the deceased were deposited at a morgue in Sagamu while the injured victims were taken to a hospital in Mowe.
He, however, called on drivers to avoid excessive speed, fairly used tyres and uphold simple traffic rules and regulations.
