Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have smashed two suspected notorious members of a robbery syndicate who specialised in attacking and robbing Uber drivers of their vehicles at gunpoint in various areas of the state.
According to findings, the suspects, who often disguise as passengers to their preys, ordered for an Uber ride around 11:30pm last Sunday, September 13.
While the Uber driver was conveying them to their destination in Ajah, the suspects were said to have launched their attack with an axe.
On reaching Abijo Government Reserved Area at Ibeju-Lekki, the suspects overpowered the driver, took control of the steering wheel and zoomed off in the Toyota Corolla car with registration number “LND 448 GH”.
Fortunately, motorists, who witnessed the attack, contacted the Area ‘J’ Commander, ACP Olugbemi Gbolahan. He reportedly dispatched a team of policemen to the scene of the crime.
The stolen vehicle was later traced to Mayfair Garden, Ibeju Lekki, where the suspects were.
According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the abducted driver was rescued and the stolen vehicle was retrieved.
Exhibits discovered are: an axe stained with blood and one knife.
The driver, who was seriously injured, is currently being attended to in the hospital.
Adejobi said, “The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered for discreet investigation into the case.
“He also warned those planning to engage in criminal acts or have been involved in one crime or the other to desist and flee Lagos State or have same fate befall them.”
