The memorial service for George Floyd has started
The memorial for George Floyd has started at the North Central University in Minneapolis.
His family was joined by civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson, Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, Martin Luther King III and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
Rev. Al Sharpton, the founder of the National Action Network, is also there. He will deliver a eulogy to honor Floyd’s life.
Actress Tiffany Haddish, comedian Kevin Hart and rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges are also in attendance.

As a memorial to honor George Floyd is set to begin in Minneapolis at a downtown sanctuary, hundreds of citizens have been honoring Floyd at a makeshift neighborhood memorial outside the store where Floyd was killed.
Flowers and signs have been laid under a mural of Floyd.
“This is the site where George Floyd stopped breathing, and it’s been considered a sacred site where people come to pray, chant, be there for one another and help each other. It has turned into that,” CNN’s Sara Sidner described on air.
Sidner noted that the memorial has become a point for conversation between people of different races and backgrounds. 24 min ago
Minneapolis mayor cries as he kneels by Floyd’s casket
As guests gather for the memorial service for George Floyd, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was seen paying his respects at Floyd’s casket.
The mayor kneeled, and then broke down and cried beside the casket.
The service is set to begin any moment now. Rev. Al Sharpton, the founder of the National Action Network, will deliver a eulogy to honor Floyd’s life.
