… CP Orders DPOs to Crackdown on Fake Security Personnel
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Messrs Anya Okorie, 45, and Usman Ali, 21, for camouflaging as a police officer and soldier, respectively.
Okorie and Ali were arrested in the Surulere axis of the state where they were caught while chasing a man, simply identified as Onyema, with a Jack Knife. The duo were both seen camouflaging as security operatives, wearing camouflaged vests.
Okorie and Ali have both been charged to a Surulere Magistrate court on counts of impersonation.
According to the police command, the men were caught with several items such as mopol berets, lanyards, sergeant rank badges, camouflage vests and a Jack knife, with which they used to impersonate those roles.
Ali confessed to actually being a commercial motorcyclist within the state.
The State’s police commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, decried the situation, adding that the command will work with other security agencies in the state to fight acts of impersonation in order to sanitise the system and solidify the security platforms of Lagos State.
He also condemned cases of dismissed officers and parading themselves as active personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military or security agencies, including the Lagos State owned agencies, to perpetrate illegal acts in the state.
While charging all police divisional heads to be on the lookout for impersonators, the police chief directed that every police personnel in the state must always possess a police warrant card or identity card as a means of identification, whether wearing a uniform or not.
