Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have begun tracing and investigation into the alleged rape of a two year old girl (name withheld) after a video of her mother beating and blaming her in Idumota area of the state went viral.
The disturbing video, which went viral Sunday June 7, got Nigerians calling for her arrest after she was seen beating and calling the child derogatory names like prostitute for being defiled by an elderly man.
In the video a mandated reporter shared the video, the yet-to-be identified mother of the child told onlookers that she beat up her daughter and almost left her blind on one eye after she found her in the act with the alleged paedophile.
On why she beat up her daughter black and blue, the confused mother said the little girl was at fault, always going to meet that man after she had warned her against it.
“She is at fault. I have warned her several times against going to the man.” Despite seeing her daughter being defiled, she pounced on her, thereby aggravating her pain while she left the perpetrator unharmed.
Angered by her acts and confession, some eyewitnesses tried to educate her of how innocent and vulnerable a child of that age is but she countered their words.
Meanwhile, the state’s police spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, has noted that the State Police Command is currently investigating the matter.
