The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is set to adopt a holistic approach as part of plans to make the state environment cleaner and livable for all residents.
The Acting Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, mentioned this at a media parley at LAWMA Headquarters, ljora-Olopa, where he disclosed that the authority had filed various programmes and initiatives to improve waste management across the metropolis.
Odumboni said that drastic measures had been put in place to enhance operational efficiency by PSP operators with emphasis on ensuring effective turnaround time at various dumpsites.
“Each disposal truck should not spend more than 20 minutes at the sites,” he stressed.
According to Odumboni, the authority would partner other agencies in the state to ensure that the challenge of improper waste disposal was holistically tackled, as establishing a cleaner and healthier environment required collaborative efforts.
Odumboni, therefore, urged residents to shun all forms of indiscriminate waste disposal which have negative consequences on the environment and on the residents.
His words: “The populace should imbibe the culture of recycling and waste sorting, which is being spearheaded by the Authority.”
Speaking further, the LAWMA boss, the agency will soon launch LAWMA Academy programme that aims at inculcating the tenets of effective waste management into the younger ones.
“Through the programme, pupils, students, corps members and interns would have the opportunity of being taught the best practices in waste management,” he noted.
