As the global lens increasingly focuses on African Creatives, Lagos-based Filmmaker and media mogul, Mo Abudu, has launched a state-of-the-art training suite in the hearts of the city, called EbonyLife Creative Academy, to help raise a new generation of stellar filmmakers.
Already, the training suite, located in the Victoria Island area of the state, is being used in a new initiative engineered by Abudu, in conjunction with the Lagos State Creative Industries Initiative (LACI) and Del-York Creative Academy, to train budding filmmakers in the city.
It aims at offering free, practical three-month courses for up to 480 learners, covering all aspects of filmmaking and media content production.
“Our most talented people cannot afford to go abroad for training, so EbonyLife Creative Academy is bringing world-class trainers to Lagos – it’s an amazing opportunity for anyone wishing to improve their technical skills,” Abudu said.
Apart from the laudable training being provided in the centre, the facility flushes with a certain finesse that gives it a productivity-driven aura for conducive learning.
“The first floor is dedicated to our Creative Academy classroom learning. We want our students to learn in the most conducive spaces possible. Creating a learning environment that is world class.”
“The layout includes eight state-of-the-art classrooms, two lounge areas for our students. All of the classrooms have feature wall art prints, created by @WilliamsChechet, inspired by some of our movies and TV series.”
“The students also have a dedicated sound round for those key audio lessons.”
“At the forefront of everything we do is technology. The EbonyLife Creative Academy is extremely grateful to @HP Nigeria and @ZinoxTech for their donations of laptops and computer systems for the use of our faculty and students.”
“The welfare of our students is important. They have a dedicated kitchen on this floor for their water, tea , coffee and lunch breaks. The Kitchen is designed and installed by @kitchen & accessories.”
“On display and for their use is our pool table from our loved show – “Men’s Corner”❤️
“Our ground floor reception is very welcoming, with its bright and airy wall mural. The rest of the ground floor consists of the EbonyLife academy faculty offices, EbonyLife studio offices, our meeting rooms and a brightly coloured screening room, for our students to watch our in-house creations and also make presentations,” Abudu said, while gleefully giving a virtual tour of the place on her Instagram page.
