The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos has arrested 156 traffic offenders for failure to install speed devices in trucks and commercial vehicles within the state.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the enforcement was carried out simultaneously across the state with focus on speed limiting device violation, number plate violation and failure to generate passenger manifest by inter-state commercial vehicles.
According to him, the e-operations were part of the command’s intervention patrol aimed at achieving reduction in road traffic crashes involving articulated trucks and inter-state commercial vehicles.
The FRSC boss also stated that a total of 180 vehicles were stopped, out of which 156 were issued tickets for various offences, while 52 vehicles were impounded and 104 documents confiscated during the exercise.
He asked truck owners that have not met the minimum safety standards to take their vehicles off Lagos roads to avoid being apprehended.
The command decried the trend by Very Important Personalities (VIPs), motorists replacing their number plates with pet names.
The corps said the number plate has security features that should not be tampered with under any disguise. Ogungbemide, in a statement by its Public Education Officer, Olabisi Sonusi, said: “We have noticed a new trend of aberration and disregard to law and order.
“A situation where some VIPs and motorists change one of their number plates, which comes in pairs, with their pet names or their popular slogans can no longer be tolerated.
“Private and commercial number plates come in pairs meant for both front and rear of the vehicle except for articulated vehicle number plates that come in three,” he added.
