The Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other Matters has suspended its sitting indefinitely.
This is as a member of the panel, Ebun Adegboruwa, SAN, alleged that the panel was frustrated.
The Chairman of the Lagos Judicial Panel, Retired Justice Doris Okuwobi, announced the suspension on Saturday.
“EndSARS panel is being frustrated. There are attempts to frustrate the EndSARS Judicial Panel from reaching meaningful conclusions on investigations into the Lekki Toll Gate Incident of 20th October 2020. I will give details subsequently,” Adegboruwa said.
The panel was set up to investigate cases of police brutality especially involving officers of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, and determine whether protesters were killed at Lekki tollgate plaza on October 20, 2020, or not.
The sitting was suspended barely seven days after a forensic expert from Sentinel Forensics Ltd, Joseph Funsho-Ako, presented a report of the forensic investigation conducted on the ammunition presented by the Nigerian Army at the panel.
He told the panel that the samples of ammunition presented by the Nigerian Army matched bullet shells recovered at Lekki Tollgate.
The expert said the integrity of the scene of the Lekki tollgate shooting was compromised before they began a forensic analysis of the environment.
He also said the camera recovered from Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, was not given to his team for forensic analysis.
The forensic company was engaged by the Lagos State government on December 29 to conduct a forensic review of the incident at the Lekki Toll Plaza and submit a detailed comprehensive report on the subject.
