Lagos monarchs, led by the Eleko of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, yesterday urged All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to run for the president in 2023.
They supported the consultative mobilisation spearheaded by the Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), led by Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
The traditional rulers last month endorsed the former Lagos governor during their retreat at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
SWAGA has visited monarchs in Badagry, Lagos, Ikorodu and Epe divisions, ahead of tomorrow’s launch of the Lagos chapter.
Addressing the monarchs at Glover Hall, Lagos Island, Adeyeye said Tinubu is qualified for the highest office.
Oba Akiolu, represented by the Opeluwa of Lagos, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s competence and capacity to effectively run the affairs of the country.
With him were prominent traditional rulers, including the Ojomu of Ajiran, Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye, Oba Fatai Aremu Aromire Oyegbemi, Oba Saheed Ademola Ikusela, Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom Oba Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Onikate of Ikate, Obanikoro of Lagos Adesoji Ajayi Bembe and the Isasi of Lagos.
The Obas described Tinubu as a man of the people, saying he wanted the best for the people at the grassroots.
They recalled that he demonstrated the virtues of leadership as a two-term governor of Lagos State and national leader of the APC.
The traditional rulers from Ikeja Division led by the Onigando of Igando, Oba Lasisi Gbadamosi, said Tinubu’s ambition is the best thing to happen to Nigeria.
They said he would lead the country to the promised land.
Oba Gbadamosi promised to mobilise 65 traditional rulers in the division to support the ex-governor.
