The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has divulged that it is reviewing guidelines for lifting the ban on interstate travels.
The National Coordinator of the task force, Dr Sani Aliyu, while speaking during the daily press briefing, said as soon as bus terminus observe and put in place COVID-19 preventive measures, the roads would be open.
His announcement is coming after the PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha, noted that from next week, the FG would decide on its lockdown policies, including the ban on interstate movements.
Mustapha acknowledged the receipt and consideration of the guidelines submitted by the Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki. “The roads will be open as soon as it is safe to do so”.
He adds: “At the moment, we still have restrictions on interstate travel. But we have been linking up with the Federal Ministry of Tansportation through the minister of state for transportation.”
“They have given us guidelines that they have developed: very detailed guidelines, and we have looked at them, sumarised them and discussed at PTF last week,” he said.
Speaking further, he said they had asked the minister of state for transportation to engage with the road transport workers to ensure that the usual garages and parks are ready in terms of guidelines such as physical distancing, reducing the number of passengers per vehicle and provision of hand washing facilities among others.
He highlighted: “And I believe they are already working on this and hopefully, we should be able to open as soon as it is safe to do so.”
