In a bid to curb crime during the yuletide festivities, Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered deployment of armed detectives to garages, bus stops and some popular social places in the state.
Odumosu also directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to deploy detectives to garages and bus stops close to their jurisdictions.
He gave the order through deputy commissioners of police in charge of Operations and Administration, DCP Ahmed Kontagora and DCP Bassey Ewa.
It was gathered that Area G Police Command, Ogba had deployed detectives to Ogba bus stop, while more officers would be mobilised to the garages and bus stops from between 6:00a.m. and 10:00p.m daily.
Several detectives have also been planted at Berger and Ojota garages, where most travellers from other parts of the country alight and disembark.
At the popular Ojuelegba, which is always busy throughout the night, detectives from Area C Command have been deployed just as they were mobilised to lkeja bus stop that bubbles through the night.
At FESTAC area Command, armed detectives have also been deployed to Mile Two, Obalende and CMS, Lion Building, Ikorodu, Ojodu and Bariga, as well as Iyana Ipaja and Fagba.
Sources at Lagos Police Command, said: “We don’t want to record any casualty or crime this season. Lagos, you know, is the business hub of Nigeria. And people come from all parts of the country to buy and to sell goods.
“It is expected that there will be an increase in human and vehicular traffic and we can’t rule out the possibility of increased crime during the period. Hoodlums will also want to use the increase in traffic to rob.”
