The Lagos State Government has opened a Rapid Response Register (RRR) for all urban poor, low or daily income earners and the vulnerable whose sources of income were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Director, Lagos State Operations Coordinating Unit (LASOCU), Mrs Adijat Adedeji, in a statement, said the register, which opened at the weekend, will close on Wednesday.
LASOCU, under the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), is coordinating the register for the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO).
It is to give relief to people whose source of income has been eroded by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adedeji said: “This is calling on all barbers, electricians, vulcanisers, traders, and anyone whose source of income has been destroyed by the COVID-19 pandemic to come out and enlist in the RRR register.
“The register is an intervention by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (MHADMSD), to help alleviate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the vulnerable groups in urban and semi-urban dwellers.”
She explained that the target includes urban poor and vulnerable population who are not yet supported through existing federal government’s intervention programmes, especially the non-traditional poor in urban and semi-urban high density areas and slum communities.
To register, interested persons are to text *969* to check the community code of their area of residence, select their local government areas and fill their personal details, and send to enable the system generate their unique identity number, which they would use subsequently.
They can also directly dial 969 from any MTN mobile line to provide their details directly to a call agent who will take it down and would subsequently send to them their unique identification number.
Adedeji reiterated that Lagos residents who fall within this category has between now and Wednesday to submit their details and register under the programme.
She said only those who registered for the RRR would be contacted by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs once they are ready to disburse the intervention.
