The All Progressives Congress (APC) to hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, today.
This will be the first official meeting under the leadership of the Abdullahi Adamu-led national working committee (NWC).
President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, governors elected on the party’s platform, leaders and some members of the National Assembly are expected to attend the maiden post-national convention NEC meeting.
National publicity secretary of the party, Felix Morka, had announced last Friday that the NEC of the governing party will meet today to consider the party’s timetable and schedule of activities for its primaries ahead of the 2023 general election.
He said the meeting scheduled to hold at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja would also consider the nomination of candidates for the 2023 general election and other relevant business of the party.
According to LEADERSHIP, top on the agenda of the meeting is the party’s zoning arrangement ahead of the forthcoming presidential primary election of the party and the issue of consensus.
Besides, it was also learnt that the issue of resignation of political appointees who are aspiring for elective positions will be addressed at the meeting.
“This is one knotty issue that will be discussed at the NEC meeting tomorrow. Political appointees at both the federal and state levels seeking elective positions in 2023 who are still occupying their offices would be asked to resign or forget their aspirations. The party does not want litigation arising from flouting the provisions of section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022,” a reliable source at the party’s national secretariat told our correspondent yesterday evening.
Meanwhile, indications have pointed to the possibility of the APC settling for consensus in choosing its presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election instead of an open contest at its forthcoming presidential primary.
The party’s national women’s leader, Betta Edu, hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari, the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, and other party leaders are the ones to choose a presidential candidate for the party for the 2023 general polls.
