Men of the Lagos State Fire Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Thursday, rescued the situation at Ayobo, Ipaja area of the state to prevent a possible fire explosion after residents called their attention to spillage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol in some communities.
According to residents, who took to Twitter to call for urgent help, the contents from the leaking pipelines spilled to nearby communities like Oju Emi, Ola mummy, Aboru, and Agbado Oke-Odo.
They further claimed that the spillage is as a result of vandalisation of pipeline of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in the area.
Speaking, a resident, Oluwafemi Adaba-Zioni, called on the state government and other stakeholders to deploy necessary apparatus to prevent possible fire outbreak as seen in the video clip on Twitter.
Consequently, LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service arrived the scene where the pipeline was allegedly vandalised to abate possible disaster.
The Acting Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, as she assured residents that adequate measures had been put in place to secure the entire area against any form of fire disaster.
Adeseye said, “Preliminary reports carried out by the agency showed that the leakage occurred in NNPC pipeline conveying PMS at Ipaja, Ayobo.”
She further noted that possible danger would be averted as the situation is under control.
Adeseye said NNPC company was contacted and the line was immediately shut down until the arrival of engineers to site to make necessary repairs.
She gave her words. “I, hereby, assure Lagosians to go about their normal business as danger would be averted as the situation is under control.”
