The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Lagos State Parks Administration, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina-Ashade, has abolished the ‘Abuja levy’ and daily levy paid by members of dissolved unions (RTEAN) and affiliates under his organisation.
The move is an attempt at tackling the menace of extortion and irregular levy payment that public transportation operators undergo in Lagos.
According to reports, Oba Adeshina-Ashade, who is the Oniba of Iba in Ojo Local Government, also fixed #20,000 as a weekly levy, comprising #18,000 levy and #2,000 running cost, as against the “arbitrary and exorbitant” daily fees members paid.
The monarch was recently elected to the organisation’s Caretaker Committee following the dissolution of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state.
There had been several complaints by different transportation operators and commuters in Lagos on the unstructured and arbitrary manner in which the agberos collect levies from them in which the state government have not been able to nip the menace in the bud.
