The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old strike.
Though the union is yet to make an official pronouncement, it was gathered that the decision was taken at the end of the National Executive Council meeting which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja.
A source within the NEC said, “Yes, it has been called off”.
When asked for more details, the source said, “the president will release an official circular in the morning.”
The academic union embarked on a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022.
The Federal Government had dragged the union to industrial court which ruled that the strike should be called off.
But not satisfied with the ruling, the varsity lecturers went to the Court of Appeal which also ruled that the strike should be called off and gave the union till Friday today for it to be called off.
It is expected that the various universities will reopen for academic activities from Monday next week.
