The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC) has arrested and detained popular musician, Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known as D’banj.
According to Premium Times the musician was arrested on Tuesday after persistent calls by ICPC for questioning over fraud allegation.
D’Banj did not honour the repeated summons, giving excuses of having a music show outside the shores of Nigeria.
Operatives of ICPC on Tuesday, having studied his movement, closed in on him and he was forced to surrender himself at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.
D’Banj is being accused of fraudulently diverting funds for N-Power project, an empowerment programme set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.
it was gathered from investigators that the musician in partnership with corrupt government officials allegedly introduced ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the N-power scheme, causing allowances paid to those beneficiaries to be paid to accounts that are found to be linked to D’Banj.
After his arrest, D’Banj went through interrogation sessions after which he was detained. His plea for administrative bail was rejected by officials who said the musician could not be trusted to attend his trial if released on bail.
It was gathered that ICPC might approach the court on Wednesday (today) for an extended remand order to enable the agency complete its investigation before charging the musician to court.
