The Assistant General Manager of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Muhammad Kamal Bello, yesterday, revealed that the company has earmarked about 1,000 houses for demolition for the installation of additional transmission lines for effective service delivery.
Speaking, Friday, at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano, Bello said the installation of an additional transmission line has become necessary for Kano to get adequate power supply.
Bello also frowned at persons who build houses under high-tension cables. He said that Kano, has over the years, suffered from inadequate power supply in the absence of the much-needed substations to cater for the three states under its jurisdiction.
The three states are Jagawa, Kano and Katsina, as well as the transmission line that crosses over to Niger republic. He, however, revealed that the contract for the installation works had already been awarded by the Federal Government and that the TCN, Kano Office, was waiting for the contract to be officially signed by the company.
He said: “People are saying that the TCN is planning to demolish about 20,000. I believe they do not understand how the installation would be carried out. For a cosmopolitan city like Kano, we need more sub-stations for adequate power supply to be realistic…”
Nobody should think that what we are planning to do is not going to be possible. We are doing it with the fear of God. And no matter whose ox is gored, we are not doing it alone. We are equally involving the state government for the exercise to be successful.
