…Chef targets 96 hours cooking time
Prominent personalities in Lagos and Nigeria have congratulated the Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, for breaking the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.
One of such personalities was the Governor of Lagos state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who visited her on Sunday, Former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio visited her on Monday morning. Presidential aspirants in the just concluded election, Mr Peter Obi and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar have both felicitated with her.
Several Nigerian celebrities have defied the rain on Sunday and Monday to cheer up the visibly tired chef up. Nollywood actor, Charles Okocha; actress, Kate Henshaw; singer, Tiwa Savage; media personality, Enioluwa, and many others appeared at the event.
The chef, on Monday morning, smashed the 87 hours 45 minutes record set by now-former Guinness World Record holder, Lata Tondon in 2019. She insisted she will surpass the record by reaching 96 hours cooking marathon.
The event which started at 4pm on Thursday, is taking place at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos. It is being live-streamed on YouTube.
The cook-a-thon’s Instagram account, @hildabacicookathon revealed that the event is headline sponsored by GB Foods. Other sponsors include Arla Foods, BaigeWallet, Filmhouse, Jumbo, Uber and Woodscope.
The Cookathon has garnered attention both online and at the physical venue. Despite the rain, many Nigerians stood at the venue cheering Hilda on.
Baci is not new to cooking competitions, she was a participant in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021. The talented chef made Nigeria proud by winning the competition and walking away with a grand prize of $5000.
