The nation’s financial industry has witnessed the unveiling of a new licensed commercial bank – Optimus.
The event took place at the bank’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos. It was witnessed by experts in the financial sector.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who opened the institution emphasised the bank’s potential to drive economic growth and stability in Lagos state.
He said: “Optimus Bank will not only play a crucial role in the banking sector and the established organizations but also in start-ups and SMEs. They are set to lift the people out of poverty.”
The governor also praised the bank for employing cutting-edge technology and innovative practices, which align with the state’s push for technological advancement and financial modernisation.
He also commended the commitment of Optimus Bank towards being customer-centric stating that the bank has the interest of its customers at heart and is ready to journey with each customer individually.
He stated that Optimus bank service “will take personal banking to another level” and by so so doing is willing to collaborate with not just Lagos state government in every sector but also with Nigeria in financial transactions.
The governor assured Optimus Bank of the support of the Lagos State government and promised to continually make Lagos state conducive for business to thrive. He acknowledged that Optimus Bank is “People-centric and consumer-focused.”
In closing his speech, the governor encouraged Nigerians as a whole to “encourage Optimus Bank with the changes it will bring.”
About the history of the bank, the bank’s Managing Director, Dr. Ademola Odeyemi said the bank got its license to operate both locally and internationally from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in March and October 2022 respectively.
“The shareholders set out to create a bank that will focus on cutting edge technology, quality customer service and a commitment to innovation. On March 18th 2022, Optimus Bank Limited was graciously issued an approval in principle by the Central Bank of Nigeria to commence and set up banking operations.
”In October 2022, Optimus Bank received its international banking licence from the central bank following an initial pre commencement examination by the regulator upon receipt of a national licence what commenced. I am proud to share that Optimua bank is on the right path to achieve its mission.”
He added the bank which was founded in 2022 by a group of visionary shareholders that share a common aspiration recognising the need for a modern and customer friendly financial institution in the country.
