…Calls for project split to other companies
The Federal House of Representatives Committee on Works has queried Julius Berger Nigeria PLC over delay in completing the Lagos-Ibadan Road, the Second Niger Bridge, and the Abuja-Kano contracts awarded.
The house frowned at the fact that despite collecting over N200 billion, Julius Berger is yet to do substantial work on the projects.
Lagos-Ibadan Road was awarded for N134bn, the Second Niger Bridge contract was awarded for N206.151bn; and the Kaduna-Abuja Road, N155bn.
The committee’s chairman, Abubakar Abubakar, disclosed this at a public hearing in Abuja on Thursday.
He expressed, “With the slow pace of work, it would be impossible for the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to commission the projects during his tenure.”
Abubakar further recommended that these projects be split and awarded to other companies, “Because we don’t think Julius Berger alone can handle them”.
Henceforth, he notified the company that the committee would strictly monitor the utilisation of the Abacha Loot, which will be used to fund the projects.
Reacting to the query, the Managing Director Julius Berger, Mr. Las Riechter, assured the committee that the projects were at various advanced stage of completion.
