Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended the suspected leader of a notorious criminal gang in the Satelite Town area of the state.
They were arrested, over the weekend, after they launched a new attack on the community residents.
They extorted several residents, many of whom struggled with them and sustained injuries. They also destroyed several properties belonging to the locals.
According to other media reports, two persons were feared killed during that crisis, which held Saturday morning, while their bodies were immediately hidden.
It was gathered that the gang members attacked a warehouse in the Abule-Osun area of the community, attempting to extort money. However, the owner of the warehouse strongly resisted them, which resulted in a crisis.
The Commander of FESTAC Police Area Command, ACP Halilu Muawiya, ordered the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Satellite Police Station, CSP Chike Oti, to end the crisis, which led to the arrest of the gang’s leader , a man named Yusuf, but notorious as Prince.
Prince allegedly confessed to have also led series of attacks on truck and tanker drivers plying Abule-Ado, Abule-Osun, Alakija, Vin Niger, some parts of FESTAC, Old Ojo Road, Satellite Town, the expressway from Mile 2 to Trade Fair Complex and other movement hot-spot areas in the state.
He also confessed to having robbed people during gridlock, at night.
He said that on every attempt made by the police to arrest them they had escaped to their hideout, in the Badagry area of the state.
Members of the community also lamented that petitions about the activities of the infamous gang were sent to different police stations, in the state, without any due attempt to bring them to justice.
According to sources, they are the same gang that robbed the warehouse of the acclaimed filmmaker, Gabosky Okoye, early this year.
They added that: “They also nearly killed another businessman who refused to pay the N10 million levy they illegally imposed on his warehouse by subjecting him to series of torture and beating, leading to his being flown overseas, where he has been reclined permanently on a wheelchair as a result of the injuries he sustained.”
The Lagos State police spokesman, SP Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest of the notorious gang leader and stated that they were compiling all his exploits in preparation to charge him to court.
