President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, mourned the passing of Sheikh Abdul-Hafeez Aṣhamu Abou.
He condoled with Baba Adinni’s family, the Muslim community in Lagos, as well as the Lagos State Government over the loss.
“Baba dedicated his life to the service of the people. He lived a full life, guided by the highest and noblest moral codes. He was a fine example for all of us.
“He will be sorely missed. We should take solace in Baba’s legacy and uphold his values of honesty, dignity, and sacrifice.”
Also, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mourned the passing of the Baba Adinni of Lagos and Chairman of the Executive Council of Lagos Central Mosque, Sheikh Abdul-Hafeez Aṣhamu Abou.
The Governor mourned the Sheikh in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday.
Sheikh Abou, was one of the topmost Islamic scholars in Nigeria, he died on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, aged 101.
Sanwo-Olu wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Sheikh Abdul-Hafeez Aṣhamu Abou, the Baba Adinni of Lagos and Chairman of the Executive Council of Lagos Central Mosque.
“His death is a great loss to his family, the Muslim community, and Lagos State.
“Sheikh Abou lived an exemplary life dedicated to peace and harmony in the state. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, associates, and the entire Muslim community in Lagos.
“I pray that Allah grants him peace and grants his family strength during this difficult time.”
It was gathered that the cause of death could not be ascertained but sources close to the family said that it was a brief illness due to old age-related health issues.
The Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Lagos State Central Mosque, Alhaji Alabi-Macfoy also confirmed the death of Baba Adinni.
“WE therefore regret to announce the death of our father-In-Islam, BABA ADINNI OF LAGOS – (HIS EMINENCE SHEIKH ABDUL HAFEEZ ASHAMU ABOU, OFR) who died on Tuesday, 9th January, 2024 at his residence.
“A special prayer was held for him today by 2pm at the Lagos central mosque before his remains was laid to rest in Abari cemetery.”
