… rapid response teams control blaze
There was a fire outbreak at the popular 10-storey Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State in the early hours of Monday.
Properties worth millions were burnt before men of the Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Police and other emergency responders raced to the scene.
Director of the Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the inferno started on the first floor and spread to the fourth floor of the 49-year-old building.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat, provided an update on the situation on his official X page.
He wrote: “MANDILAS FIRE UPDATE: Fire Out Completely. First responders are still very much on the ground. Road Cordoned off and alternative roads are being well managed by LASTMA @followlastma and Lion Building Police Division and RRS @rrslagos767
“Lagos State Building Control Agency begins immediate clearing of shop extensions that hindered the biggest Fire truck (Aerial Ladder) to get in from the other side.”
