Men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Agency have averted a possible inferno outbreak at two locations after two trucks laden with PMS spilled their contents on Ozumba Nbadiwe Street, Victoria Island at past 4am Tuesday.
According to the Ag. Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Agency, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, the 33,000 litres truck conveying petroleum motor spirit (PMS) from a private depot at Apapa was heading to Ajah when it developed a mechanical fault, tilted and spilled its contents on 1004 Estates road.
Firemen from Lekki Phase 1 station were said to have arrived the scene to blanket the spilled products with chemical foam compound to avert a secondary incident.
Adeseye noted that the fumes could have triggered fire but was abated while the remnants of the contents was trans-loaded to another tanker.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were also on ground to ensure free flow of traffic.
She adds, “The truck was later towed off the road by officials of Lekki Concession Company to complement the effort of the traffic officers.”
This is coming also as the fire service foiled another tanker incident fire outbreak at Alakuko, Lagos Abeokuta Expressway around 05:14am.
Another 33,000 tanker with registration number FST 32 XL fully loaded with PMS, was said to have lost control while making a bend at the roundabout inward Toll Gate and spilled its contents.
Agege Fire Station salvaged the situation and oversaw the trans loading of the remnant PMS into another tanker with registration number MUS 52 XP.
The Director of Operations, LASEMA, Mr. Olatunde Akinsanya, who also co firmed the incident said there were no casualties recorded
