Peanut, the social networking app designed for women, has rolled out a new feature called Peanut Track, aimed at helping users monitor their pregnancies. Leveraging seven years of user data and artificial intelligence (AI), the tool anticipates the questions and concerns women may have at various stages of pregnancy, offering personalized guidance throughout the journey.
Founded in 2017, Peanut has built a reputation as a community-driven platform that connects women across different life stages, from puberty to menopause. The introduction of Peanut Track marks a significant step for the platform, moving beyond its core focus on community by offering an individual pregnancy tracking feature tailored to each user’s specific needs.
“We’ve always prioritized building a strong community,” said Michelle Kennedy, CEO and founder of Peanut, in an interview with TechCrunch. “But what about the moments when a woman isn’t looking to engage with others but instead seeks trusted information? Peanut Track is about providing content based on the questions we’ve seen asked by women over the years.”
Peanut Track provides users with timely content specific to their current pregnancy stage, including health and well-being tips, as well as content reviewed by gynecologists. The feature also offers familiar pregnancy metrics, such as comparing the baby’s size to common objects—whether a peach or a pumpkin—and forecasting symptoms the user might experience.
Despite its focus on individual pregnancy tracking, Peanut Track still stays true to Peanut’s mission of fostering community. It connects expecting mothers who are at the same stage of pregnancy, providing a sense of shared experience and support.
The idea for the new feature was driven by user feedback, with Kennedy noting that Peanut has the advantage of being able to closely collaborate with its user base to deliver tools that meet their evolving needs.
Looking ahead, Peanut plans to launch a new feature called Peanut Grow, designed to help women navigate the early stages of motherhood. Peanut Grow will focus on tracking the development of newborns while also considering the emotional and mental well-being of new mothers, addressing issues such as postpartum depression and loneliness.
“You can track feedings, diapers, and all the usual things with a newborn,” Kennedy explained. “But what about you? How are you doing? Tracking a mother’s mental health and mood is crucial, and Peanut Grow will help identify these needs while offering community support, so women know they’re not alone.”
Peanut has raised $32 million in funding to date, with the most recent $10 million round in August 2022 helping the company achieve profitability. This follows a $12 million Series A funding round in 2020, allowing the company to continue expanding its offerings for women’s health and well-being.
