The media industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News Channel, who was killed during an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja on Monday.
Maduagwu, a lawyer by training who transitioned into journalism, was born on December 26, 1995. She was widely admired for her professionalism and engaging on-screen presence, becoming a familiar face to viewers of ARISE News.
In a statement issued by the management of ARISE News, the station described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family,” noting that her voice “engaged and connected with our viewers.”
The statement further read: “Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory.”
The management and staff of the network extended their condolences to her parents, siblings, friends, and loved ones, while also urging security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has since launched an inquiry into the incident and has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
