The Lagos State Police Command has announced the commencement of full enforcement of regulations governing the use of tinted vehicle glass across the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the exercise, which began on October 2, 2025, is in compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
The police urged motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through the official portal, http://possap.gov.ng, warning that vehicles without valid authorisation will be impounded and their owners prosecuted.
“Those who do not intend to obtain a permit are strongly advised to remove unauthorised tints or replace factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones as required by law,” the statement read.
The command further directed motorists to ensure they carry their vehicle documents at all times and cooperate with officers during routine checks. Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, instructed operatives to act with professionalism and cautioned that any officer found to have abused the process would face disciplinary action, while supervisors would also be held accountable.
“The enforcement is not meant to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to safeguard the lives and property of everyone in the state,” Jimoh said.
The police also assured Lagos residents of their commitment to fairness, professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights throughout the exercise.
The regulation, backed by the 2004 Act, aims to curb insecurity by ensuring that vehicles with tinted windows are verifiable and used only by authorised persons.
The development comes as other commands, including Zone Five, covering Edo and Delta States, also announced renewed enforcement of tinted glass laws and the ban on unauthorised sirens.
