The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who were allegedly caught attacking residents around the Shoprite Mall in Ikeja and the Maryland axis of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, identified the suspects as 32-year-old Segun Adeyemi and 24-year-old Abayomi Ajayi. According to her, the duo are members of a three-man gang that reportedly used a motorcycle to dispossess unsuspecting residents of their valuables.
Adebisi explained that the arrests were made on Monday, September 29, 2025, at about 7:15 p.m., after operatives from the Ikeja Division responded to a distress call about the gang’s activities. While two suspects were apprehended, the third member of the group managed to escape.
“The operational motorcycle used by the gang was recovered as evidence. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects came from Mushin to Ikeja to carry out the attacks before luck ran out on them,” she said.
The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect, while the two men in custody will be prosecuted upon completion of the case.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift response of the operatives and expressed appreciation to residents whose cooperation made the arrests possible. He reassured Lagosians of the command’s commitment to tackling crime and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid law enforcement.
The latest arrests add to a series of recent clampdowns on robbery gangs in Lagos. In August, police paraded 68 suspects, including seven linked to armed robbery, alongside the recovery of 17 firearms and several stolen vehicles. That same month, operatives also apprehended three members of a “one chance” robbery gang targeting unsuspecting commuters.
While concerns about street-level crime persist, the command maintains that it is stepping up enforcement and response to protect lives and property across the state.
