Advocates took to the streets of Lagos, Monday, to protest against the release of an alleged serial paedophile, Pa Oyewole Ebenezer, who is in hiding away from remand after allegedly defiling two minors aged six and nine despite being HIV positive in Aranseolu Orile Agege area of Lagos.
Oyewole, who is blind, and diabetic, was said to have defiled more minors as the parents of others withdrew for fear of being evicted from their residence owned by the culprit.
Although he was remanded at the Gender Unit Command Ikeja, advocates claim he is no longer there.
According to Toyin Ndidi Taiwo-Ojo, an advocate with the Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), they learnt that the alleged serial rapist had been freed and hiding in his son’s residence.
“We didn’t know when he was released. However, unconfirmed reports from his neighbourhood showed that the alleged perpetrator was hiding in his son’s house in Abule-Egba”, she expressed.
With this report, “Our undercover investigator went to the Gender Unit at Command Ikeja where Pa Oyewole was supposed to have been remanded but found out that there was nobody of such in the cell.”
This findings occasioned the protest as other NGOs like Executive Director of Denny Social Welfare Hub joined with placards to condemn the act and demand Pa Oyewole be fished out to face the law.
The advocates walked from command through the High Court and back to Command while two representatives went in to submit a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
