ICPC Arrests 25 FRSC, Others for Fraud in Lagos

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has on Thursday arrested 25 officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and others connected with drivers’ license and vehicle particulars fraud across Lagos State.

Other officials nabbed are, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), and the Motor Vehicle Licensing Authority (MVLA) among others.

The ICPC conducted the operation in places including Ikeja, Eti-Osa, Somolu, Ojo, Oshodi, University of Lagos, Surulere, Agege, Coker, and Anthony Drivers’ License Centres in Lagos State.

The commission was said to have received information that those arrested officials connived with touts to extort extra fees from applicants before their drivers’ licenses and vehicles particulars are processed.

The commission has revealed that some sums of money, several incriminating documents and equipment were retrieved from the suspects during the operation.

The officials have been granted administrative bail by the commission and would be arraigned in Court when investigations have been concluded.

The commission, however, warned that the exercise is a continuous one and similar operations would be carried out in other centres in order to rid motor licensing administration of fraud being perpetrated on the public.
