… To Deploy Air Monitoring Stations At Strategic Locations City-wide
The General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, has said that the state government is speeding the creation of policies geared towards reducing air pollution in the state.
Fasawe said this, yesterday, at a webinar for the novel commemoration of the first International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies.
Fasawe said that air pollution was associated with millions of deaths worldwide and hence deserved serious attention.
She noted that the rapid industrialisation of the state had contributed to the exposure of residents to ecological problems and changing climate conditions, with the attendant negative effects on health.
The general manager said the state government was committed to the deployment of “air quality monitoring stations” at strategic locations in Lagos to enable the government to measure air pollutants on a 24-hour, real-time basis.
This, she said, would serve as a foundation for developing informed policies towards improving air quality.
She also said that “To mitigate the health risks associated with air pollution, the agency will also be carrying out a public air quality awareness campaign, particularly in exposed communities such as people living in areas with high vehicular movement and industrial activities,” she added.
