The Federal Government has alerted the Lagos State government and 31 others of coming flood, as it called for proactive measures to reduce the effects of heavy rainfalls.

Other states alerted of possible heavy rainfall and flooding this year include: Abia, Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, and Kano.

Others are: Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday September 13, issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Nneka Anibeze.

Her warning came on the heels of gave the recent flooding in Bauchi, Jigawa and Kebbi states respectively.

Farouq noted, “The recent floods in parts of those states affirm the need for serious and urgent actions to be taken to safeguard lives and property against the predicted floods.”

While urging the various states governments on the need to prepare for emergency flooding response, the minister sympathised with residents of the three states, who lost their lives and farmlands as a result.

She, therefore, implored the states to identify high grounds to be used as camps, shelter Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from flooding, and protect fragile communities.
