African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Funso Doherty has promised to do everything within his power to improve the standard of living of the masses in the state if elected governor of the state in the forthcoming general election.
Doherty said this, while declaring his interest to run for the governorship position in the state, adding that lack of commitment to the interest of the masses is the bane of the suffering of the masses.
According to him, the government exists to administer the resources of a people to expand the freedoms that they enjoy. He noted that discharging that sacred trust, which is what public office represents, requires the dual capacities of competence and character.
He explained that Public sector leaders must know the right things to do, and be committed to doing it and act consistently in the interest of the people.
“This last point is where many fall short. Placing self-interest, or vested interests ahead of public interest guarantees that the freedoms of the people will be diminished.
“The consequences of this are real not theoretical: Educational standards will fall, life expectancy will be curtailed, mothers and newborns will die from illnesses that they ought not to, high rise buildings will collapse killing many and so on and so on,” he said.
