The leaders of Arewa communities in Lagos State have on Thursday demanded the Federal Government to grant Lagos state special status like other former federal capitals across the world to enable it address its infrastructure deficit.
The leaders made this call during a meeting with the Lagos East Senatorial By-Election Campaign Council under the leadership of Kaoli Olusanya in Ikorodu area of the state on Thursday.
In the words of the Arewa leader, Musa Sali, they have come to an understanding that Lagos has been facing grave infrastructure deficit since the federal capital was moved to Abuja.
As a result, he bemoaned, Lagos has a huge burden to the state government due to the task of managing the state’s infrastructure deficit.
The Arewa leaders, therefore, demanded; “We are demanding special status for Lagos to enable it address infrastructure deficit. Without special grants, the state will not be able to address these challenges.”
They harped on, “We, therefore, ask the Federal Government to grant Lagos State special status like other former federal capitals across the world.”
Among those present at the meeting were; the Apex Leader, Arewa United Group, Mamuda Ibrahim; State Women Leader, Arewa United Group, Halima Zakara; State Secretary, Arewa United Group, Musa Sali; and the Director-General, Arewa United Group, Adamu Mats among several others.
