A gas tanker has, Thursday, exploded at Balogun bus stop, Grail Land, Iju area of Lagos State leaving several people severely injured.
According to reports, the tanker was attempting to enter a domestic gas plant at Iju when it suddenly exploded.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has alerted the Lagos State fire service.
NEMA has urged road users to stay away from the area for now.
Following the gas tanker explosion, 30 people have been severely injured, 15 vehicles razed and 23 buildings gutted in the gas tanker explosion
Among the 30 casualties are 10 females currently admitted at Iju Waterworks Clinic in the 3p.m incident.
Among the 13 vehicles are: two tricycles, one heavy duty truck, S&Y Event Centre, one church building, one block industry and attached office, one cement store, one sawmill, shanties, and several stores where building materials are sold.
The 23 buildings affected are: two residential buildings, one church, one event centre, four commercial building, one market building comprising 15 shanty shops, 11 cars, two mini trucks, one bus and one heavy duty truck.
According to the Director-General/CEO Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, a 30-ton LPG tanker being operated by Mana Gas Ltd was involved in the explosion.
He adds, “It was discovered that a compromised seal device by the truck driver led to gradual leakages which then ignited when the tyres burst.”
With the help of responders at the scene of the incident like LASEMA, Lagos Fire Service, Police and members of NSCDC, Oke-Osanyintolu said the fire was quelled and damping down is being carried out.
