The Lagos State Police Command has Thursday assured road users entering and exiting Lagos Island and Mainland of adequate security and traffic management during the 72 hours planned closure of the Third Mainland Bridge.
It will be closed between midnight of Friday December 25, and Tuesday December 29 this year.
The closure, the police said in a media release, is in continuation of the ongoing repairs of the bad portion of the bridge.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, “The closure will occasion some traffic stress on commuters particularly those already used to the bridge and adjoining routes”.
The Police Command further implored the public to stick to the already designated alternative routes.
Adejobi said, “Motorists going to the Island can access Lagos through Oworonshoki, Adekunle, and Oyingbo as there won’t be thorough fare through Third Mainland Bridge to Adeniji Adele.”
He noted that road users can also access Lagos through Maryland, Fadeyi, Western Avenue, and Marina.
Those moving outwards Victoria Island, Ikoyi, and Obalende to Mainland, he advised to access through Ilubinrin, Ogogoro Village, Carter Bridge, Oyingbo or to Ijora Olopa to link Eko Bridge.
The PRO added, “Alternatively, they can access Mainland through Falomo, Awolowo Road, TBS, Eko Bridge, Ikorodu Road or Ozumba Mbadiwe or Ahmadu Bello way to Eko Bridge, Western Avenue.”
The Lagos State Police Command urges road users to seek and stick to traffic advisory measures put in place to ease traffic congestion along the route and in Lagos State in general.
Adejobi stated, “The Police Command also wishes to encourage road users across the state to be law-abiding and avoid being reckless while driving on the highways/roads as security agencies are ever ready to enforce traffic regulations in the state.”
He, however, assured motorists and the public of sustainable fight against traffic robbery and other crimes while the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu wished all Lagosians a Merry Christmas in advance.
