A 27-year-old man, Okechukwu Jaja, was remanded in a correctional facility in Lagos State on Wednesday.

He was remanded by a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to stealing.

Jaja, whose address has not been revealed, is getting tried for stealing a Suzuki mini bus worth N1,800,000.

Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, who’s the chief magistrate, has adjourned the matter until Nov. 15 for review of facts of the matter and sentencing.

ASP. Clement Okuoimose, who was the prosecutor, had informed the court that the defendant carried out the offence on September 15, at about 7.00 a.m., at Anthony Street in Ayetoro Ijanikin area of Lagos State.

The prosecutor also informed the court that the defendant illegally took away one Suzuki mini bus with registration number FKJ 732 YC which belongs to the complainant, one Chinedu Enalamah.

“The defendant was arrested by the people who saw him driving the bus out of the compound and handed him over to the police for prosecution,’’ the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor also claimed that the offence was in contravention of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

Section 287 attaches three years’ imprisonment to offence of stealing.
