A Lagos State Sexual Offences Court has sentenced a Mr. Nura Asumoge to 25 years in prison, for defiling a 13-year-old girl.
The Lagos state ministry of justice disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, Asumoge had defiled the girl on April 3, 2018.
After delivering the verdict, A.O. Soladoye, the presiding judge, also ordered the defendant’s name to be included in the sexual offenders register of the state.
“Judgment was delivered today by Hon. Justice A.O. Soladoye sitting at the Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja in the case of The State of Lagos vs Nura Asumoge ID/8124c/2018,” the statement reads.
“The Defendant was convicted for defiling a 13-year-old girl on the 3rd of April, 2018 and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
“The court ordered that the name of the convict be entered into the Sexual Offenders Register in the State.
“The offence of defilement is contrary to section 137 of the Criminal of Lagos State.”
Judgment was delivered today by Hon. Justice A.O. Soladoye sitting at the Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja in the case of The State of Lagos vs Nura Asumoge ID/8124c/2018.
The development comes one year after Adegboyega Adenekan, a former supervisor at Chrisland School, Lagos, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for defiling a two-year-old pupil.
There have been widespread reports of child defilement across the country, with various state governments introducing measures to address the scourge.
While the Kaduna government has approved castration for rapists in the state, in Lagos, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) was set up by the state government to ensure “total eradication of sexual and gender-based violence”.
