Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board in collaboration with a popular talk show in America, The Doctors and Lagos Bus Service Limited, has unveiled an easily accessible method of getting vaccination, through mobile vaccination clinic.
The mobile vaccination clinic was a collaborative effort to increase the acceptance rates of vaccination in the state, as the Omicron variant continues to spread.
At the launch of the novel initiative, the Executive Producer and host, The Doctors in Africa, Dr. Adedayo Osholowu, said the initiative was to ensure more Lagos residents get vaccinated.
He noted that the bus would be stationed at various entertainment and event centres for people to get the vaccination. He decried Lagosians poor attitude towards the vaccine.
“On the street, people don’t want to get vaccinated. That is true. There is a lack of trust. They thought that during the lockdown, they were betrayed and nobody came to their aid because they struggled to eat. Now, when the government said they should come for vaccination, they would be wondering, why the sudden care when they failed to care of them during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Osholowu lamented that despite the free access to the vaccine, and its availability, many people still skeptical about approaching The Doctors in the mobile vaccination clinic.
According to him: “In the past one week, we have met over 40,000 people, but only 400 have got vaccinated. Acceptance is low on the streets because a lot of people are skeptical. So what we are doing is trying to use a convincing method so all can be vaccinated.”
He appealed to Lagos residents to come out en masse to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, saying only collaborative efforts from both the government and the people could suppress the pandemic.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos Bus Service Ltd, Mr. Idowu Oguntona, hoped that with the effort, many Lagos residents would be vaccinated.
He said the vaccine being administered on the vehicle were provided by the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board.
