Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile of the Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), on Friday fixed May 20 to deliver judgment in the case against a Danish man, Peter Nielsen, accused of killing his Nigerian wife and his daughter.
Justice Bolanle Okikiolu-Ighile had earlier fixed May 6 to deliver the judgment after parties in the matter adopted their written addresses on March 1, 2022, but the court did not sit on Friday.
However, one of the court registrars, who didn’t want his name mentioned, told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the judgment was not ready, hence the rescheduling.
The state had arraigned the foreigner on June 13, 2018, before the court on a two-count charge of
murder contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The prosecution had alleged that the defendant aged 53 allegedly killed his Nigerian musician wife, Zainab also known as Alizee and daughter on April 5, 2018, at about 3:45am at their Banana Island residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
While moving the final written submission, the defence counsel, Olasupo Shasore (SAN) urged the judge to discharge and acquit his client.
Shasore raised two issues for the determination of the court, which he said relate to the constitutional rights of the defendant’s fair hearing and referred to the address of the prosecution, in paragraphs 4.31 up to 4.33 and pages 46 to 47, (The
nightgown the deceased wore the night she was killed).
