A dispatch rider with a delivery company, Q-Link Delivery Services, has been killed after colliding with a commercial bus on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State.
It was gathered that the yet-to-be-identified rider was conveying deliveries to a destination on Tuesday around 11:00 am when he suddenly lost control of the motorcycle and rammed into the commercial bus which was filled with passengers.
A passerby, who gave his name only as Adetokunbo, said the motorcycle immediately caught fire, adding that the dispatch rider was burnt to death.
He said, “A Q-Link dispatch rider was on his way to deliver something but lost control of the motorcycle and rammed into an 18-seater commercial bus on the Third Mainland Bridge. It went up in flames and the man was burnt beyond recognition.
“There is no record of hospitalisation of any passenger on the bus. The explosion happened because of the impact of the collision.”
It was also gathered that emergency management workers at the scene of the incident included men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Lagos State Police Command, among others.
A video clip of the scene seen by our correspondent showed sympathisers, including other dispatch riders and passengers of the affected bus, lamenting the incident.
The charred remains of the rider were seen lying on the bridge, as the wreckage of the motorcycle was placed beside the corpse.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Jamiu Dosunmu, promised to get back to our correspondent on the incident, but had yet to do so as of the time this report was filed.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the IDH mortuary in Yaba. Investigation is ongoing.”
