Despite the banning of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), yesterday, Lagosians have continued their protests in the Lekki area of the state, today. Gridlock is mounting within sensitive road corridors in the state, as the protesters have blocked the entrance to the Lekki Toll Gate.
The protesters are clamouring for a total reform of the police force, including psychological re-evaluation of all erstwhile SARS officials before redeployment, immediate release of arrested protesters, among other concerns geared towards ending police brutality in the state.
Also, other demonstrations have been confirmed to happen in the Surulere area of the state, today.
Meanwhile, contrary to circulating allegations, the Lagos State Government has said that it is not resisting any protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate, today. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said that, “Our attention has been drawn to the false information being circulated on social media that the MD of LCC has been instructed by the government to bring SARS and RRS to harass protesters at the Lekki tollgate today.”
