The police on Tuesday arraigned five men before Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay of the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, over the alleged killing of one Wale Kalejaiye during an attack on a police team in the Akodo area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The defendants — Bariu Oluwo, Ayo Ogunloja, Segun Binkanose, Tajudeen Agbaje and Mutafiu Ogunlaja — who were granted administrative bail following the strike embarked upon by judicial workers at the time of their arrest, were arraigned on three counts.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
It was gathered that Kalejaiye led policemen to the community to arrest some people when hoodlums attacked them.
The policemen had arrested three suspects and were on their way out of the community when the victim identified another suspect.
The policemen stopped to arrest the new suspect when the hoodlums attacked the team and took Kalejaiye away.
His corpse was later recovered from a beach in the Magbon Segun community, Ibeju-Lekki.
At the Tuesday proceedings, the police prosecutor, Moruf Animashaun, told the court that he had directed the investigating police officer to serve the defendants with the court process.
He, however, could not confirm if they had been served, prompting the presiding judge to adjourn the matter till January 31, 2022.
